AI Tech Trainee: Jessica’s experience

9.12.2020

One goal of the DTSE AI Incubator is to make AI understandable and accessible to our colleagues. Therefore, we have launched two learning journeys: the AI Influencer Program and the AI Tech Trainee. The AI Tech Trainee Program dives into the tech world of Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning and Forecasts and provides a deep look behind the scenes to understand how we build AI products at DTSE. It mainly aims at colleagues with some technical background, who want to grow their skill set. We have asked Jessica, a participant in the last round, a few questions about her experience with the program.

Could you tell us a little more about yourself?

My name is Jessica Sanchez, I am from México and I live in Bratislava since 2010. After one year of self-studying programming languages with the free resources from the internet, I changed my career from Procure to Pay team leader to Software Developer.  By December 2018, I landed my first job as JavaScript developer in DTSE Slovakia. This year I had the opportunity to be part of the first generation of the Tech Trainee Program.

Why did you decide to join the Tech Trainee Program?

I liked the idea of the AI Tech Trainee Program as I saw It offers a high-level overview of the main AI fields. It was important for me to understand it better in order to define the next steps for my professional career. As well, I saw it as an opportunity to get to know more people interested in the AI topics.

What fascinates you about AI?

That AI enables powerful resources for us to automatize so many processes and to speed up the decision-making process by powerful data analysis that can be done in just a few seconds.

I think that we can use technology in our favour, to make our life easier, so we can focus on other important aspects of our professional and personal life.

What is the most interesting thing you have learnt?

The AI Incubator team prepared very detailed material for us to code a few technical Quests by ourselves. For me, all the quests were very interesting, especially the first one where we coded a model to predict the survival rate of the infamous Titanic incident. I have to say that I also got a little frustrated sometimes, for example, when I struggled to code the facial recognition quest, but then the AI Incubator team was always there to support and help. In the end, I could fix my code and make it work.

Would you suggest the program to a colleague?

Of course! I consider that it’s important for everybody to get familiar with the AI topics as it is becoming already an important agent on all the corporate fields, and eventually, it will be part of our day-to-day job.

And that DTSE is offering this great opportunity to all of us is simply amazing! So go for it!
