What to do in Brno?

Either you are visiting a friend for a week or you recently moved to this amazing city, we will give you an overview of the best things to do or see in Brno! Located in the South Moravian region, Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic by population and area. The city is situated at the confluence of rivers Svitava and Svratka and has about 400,000 inhabitants. Brno has a beautiful architecture, many green recreational areas, and an international atmosphere. It is one of the most interesting cities in the country.

St. Peter and Paul Cathedral is one of the most important landmarks of the country and definitely one of the highlights in Brno. Situated on top of the Petrov hill, the cathedral has more than 600 years of history. A Romanesque chapel was built on the top of a hill back to the 11th and 12th centuries. 

Villa Tugendhat is definitely a must-see in Brno! The Villa is an example of modern architecture in the Czech Republic. Why is it so popular? You find it among the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage sites. The Villa designed by the German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was built in 1930, 

Špilberk Castle, established in the 13th century,  was first a royal castle and later on a baroque fortress.

The fortress, after some time, became the most rigorous prison of the Austro-Hungarian empire, and in the end a barracks of the occupying army. Nowadays, the Castle represents a national heritage monument with an important role in the cultural center of Brno.

The main square in Brno, Náměstí Svobody, is every day full of local people enjoying coffee in cafes or Czech beers in the pubs in the evening. The atmosphere in the historical square is really cozy, especially with the townhouses around,

If you enjoy nature and relaxing places, you should consider visiting Kraví hora, a recreational area in Brno. There you will find a nice park, where many people come for a long walk, lying on the grass, or for a run. It has also several playgrounds for kids and dogs, a swimming pool, and one of the coolest attractions in the city: the Observatory and Planetarium.

Not far from the city center is the Brno Lake, the biggest recreational area of the city. It is surrounded by green forests and big fields. Close to it, the Veveří Castle stands, one of the largest castles in the country. Nowadays a huge historical complex with exhibitions and cultural events.
